Jr Fair Book

 Family & Child Development – Department J-29

  • To be judged face-to-face Wednesday, 12:00 noon-7 p.m.

Exhibitors limited to entering in one class only. Open to members enrolled in a Child Development project. One Grand Champion and one Reserve Champion will be selected in Family Living. Ribbon will be awarded.

If making a poster or chart, the size must be 14”x22”, unless otherwise specified. Where exhibit calls for a display, this is not limited to a 14”x22”, unless otherwise specified.

Department J-29, Class A – Grades 3-6

  1. Handmade toy for a child.
  2. Handmade puppet for a child.
  3. Handmade picture book for a child. Describe what the child will learn.
  4. Make a Learning Box as described in Chapter 1, Activity 2, of “Growing On My Own” literature.
  5. Take babysitting course, then exhibit completed workbook from course with short story of what was learned during the course.
  6. Recipe book of snacks for children, include at least 6 recipes and the reaction of the children you made the snacks for.
  7. Any other exhibit not listed above.

Department J-29, Class B – Grades 7-9

  1. Handmade game for a child.
  2. Recipe book of nutritious snacks for children, include at least 8 recipes and the reaction of the children you made the nutritious snacks for.
  3. Babysitting kit, 8-10 items, displayed with carrying case.
  4. Make a book of outdoor and indoor games to play with children. Include at least 8 outdoor and 8 indoor games. Indicate the directions, age appropriate to play, supplies needed, time needed to play, etc. Be sure to include a reference of where the game came from if it is borrowed from another source.
  5. Make a family tree or mobile that shows things your family does together, as shown in Chapter 3, Activity 17, of “Growing With Others” literature.
  6. Make a toy for a child out of recycled materials. On a 3”x5” card, indicate what the toy is, the appropriate age group and how the toy works.
  7. Any other exhibit not listed above.

Department J-29, Class C- Grades 10 & Above

  1. Plan a monthly budget including living expenses (include expenses and income needed to cover the expenses) (for example: cost of monthly cell phone bill, electricity, food, entertainment, gas, money in savings, etc.)
  2. Poster or display showing what is needed to have a safe environment for children (this could be related to a day care setting, at home, or other location).
  3. Make a book of outdoor and indoor games to play with children. Include at least 8 outdoor and 8 indoor games. Indicate the directions, age appropriate to play, supplies needed, time needed to play, etc. Be sure to include a reference of where the game came from if it is borrowed from another source.
  4. Planning for a family —could be buying a house, raising children, etc. (poster or display about expenses, needs, etc).
  5. Child safety display or poster — car seats, child CPR, first aid kit, toy safety, etc.
  6. 20. Exhibit describing at least 6 careers related to children/child development. Include a brief job description, skills and ability needed, job training or education required, age of children they work with, etc.
