Woodworking – Department J-22

  • All woodworking will be judged face-to-face Wednesday, 12:00 noon to 7:00 p.m.

It is recommended that all articles have an appropriate finish for the intended use. Age exceptions can be made at the discretion of the judge.

One Grand Champion and one Reserve Champion will be selected in Classes A and B; and one Grand Champion and one Reserve Champion in Classes C, D. Ribbons will be awarded.

Optional woodworking comment sheet may be used by judge during judging. Categories on the comment sheet include: proper selection of wood according to use; accurate cutting, sanding and surface preparation; joining of parts; proper use of fasteners; finish; serviceability for intended use; general appearance and proportions; member’s knowledge shared with judge. Members are to mark the fair year on the bottom of all woodworking projects.

No kits are allowed for woodworking entries except 4-H Super Saturday projects and they should be properly finished.

Exhibitors limited to entering in one class only.  Classes are divided according to woodworking experience.  Woodworking experience includes, but is not limited to, school, shop, work, 4-H/FFA and other youth organization woodworking experience.

Department J-22, Class A – 1 & 2 years of woodworking experience

Unit I – Open to members enrolled in a 4-H Woodworking project, or members of other youth groups doing equivalent work. Members may exhibit 3 or fewer articles from group below.

Pink – $1.00

  1. Useful article for use in farm or home workshop.
  2. An article for use out-of-doors.
  3. An article for use in storage.
  4. An article for use in kitchen.
  5. Article for use in living room.
  6. An article for use in the home.
  7. A toy or homemade game.
  8. An article of creative design from wood and other materials.
  9. An article made in Industrial Arts, Vocational Agriculture Class, or Shop as part of class work and for a class grade or extra credit.
  10. Article useful or to aid in another project, i.e., rabbit show stand.

Department J-22, Class B – 3 & 4 years of woodworking experience

Unit II – Open to members enrolled in a 4-H Woodworking project or members of other youth groups doing equivalent work.

Members may exhibit 3 or fewer articles from group below.

White – $1.50

  7. Repaired or refinished article.
  8. An article of creative design from wood or wood and other materials.
  9. An article made in Industrial Arts, Vocational Agriculture Class, or Shop as part of class work and for a class grade or extra credit.
  10. Article useful or to aid in another project, i.e., rabbit show stand.
  11. An article for use in storage.
